"Get out of my town"

Well, one and one is two
Six and two is eight
Come on baby don't ya make me late
Hidehey
Baby dont you wanna go
Back to that same old place
Sweet home Chicago...

Earlier today I blogged about my hometown, and it really got me thinking about a colleague I used to have at work. Mr. Jackson and I would debate sports all the time, usually ending up with him telling me to get out of his town. It always struck me funny, in that yes we both live in the Cleveland area, but I am actually from here and he is from the south. That being said he is a die-hard suffering Cleveland fan. Browns, Indians, Cavs he is all in and a homer thru and thru.

However as I have stated before I spent the 80's in Illinois and from '83 to '88 around Chicago. Oh I tried to root for my hometown team as a , but how much that hurt. I remember sitting with my Aunt as a five year old and crying during Red Right 88.

then crying during the drive. I still cannot understand the prevent defense. Plus Elway had lanes a tank could drive down.

then crying again during the fumble the very next year. It was then that this 12 year old decided he could not have split allegiance. His Cleveland sports days were over.

Let us face facts. I had just moved back to the North East Ohio area, I thought why not give them the chance. I like Kosar, the team looks good. Having an AFC team and an NFC team is not a crime. Nope Cleveland at that moment I felt I would never celebrate a championship in my life time.

I will root for them to do good for family and friends, or when I attend games (as long as they are not playing my teams) but swore them off for good. Why would I not. I just spent the 80's in Illinois. I watched one of the most dominate defenses ever win a super bowl. The greatest running back of all time, and a cast of characters that to this day I love.

I saw the greatest basketball player get drafted. Win rookie of the year, defensive player of the year in his second season, and five MVP awards. Oh yeah and six NBA championships before he was done

The Blackhawks were not only a storied franchise and original six of the NHL, but they won their division three time while I lived in the area. Cleveland did not have an NHL team so this one was less difficult Plus with exciting stars on the roster the sky was the limit.

Then there is the Cubs, yes the Cubs ( I do not like that southern junior circuit team ) The team that was cursed by the goat up until two years ago. The team that before 2016 had not won the series since 1908. Yes that team, who almost got there in 84 and had the city all a buzz

So there you have it. He would get irritated and tell me "get out of my city" because for the 80s I had a run with sports that was great where I lived, and too much heartache from where I was from. By the time I was a I was a die hard Chicago sports fan. I bleed Blue and Orange, Black and Red, and Pinstripes.

I have the luxury of seeing all my teams win a championship in my lifetime. I do not know if my colleague will ever get the same treat.

haha yeah, the Colts did sneak away in the middle of the night. That is true. The Ravens of course are the Browns. Art Model moved the team from Cleveland to Baltimore, but the fans here are so great they fought for the name, colors and history which was given to the new "expansion" team a few years later.

70's Phillies huh? Tug McGraw? Anyway always great to see and hear from you

Happy Sunday and its funny how people react to sports, I know I am a die hard Niners fan as you know, I am not into basketball or baseball or any other sport really. I think we should always support our teams no matter how much they win or loose!!!

I hope you enjoy a great Sunday..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

It truly is interesting how much a sport we watch affects us. I agree once someone settles on a team they need to ride that wave

I am enjoying my last non football Sunday, thank you. Hope you rest well on yours

That is awesome. For me the only thing about the Phillies I ever liked was in 1982 they traded Larry Bowa to my Cubs for Ivan DeJesus. When they did they threw in a rookie player. That player happened to be Ryno - Ryne Sandberg. Ryno spent over a decade kicking arse for my Cubbies
